Dr. Kiran Harishchandra Sancheti — affectionately known as ‘KHS’ — is one of India’s most celebrated orthopedic surgeons and a true legend in the field of musculoskeletal medicine. With a career spanning over 60 years, he founded the Sancheti Institute for Orthopaedics & Rehabilitation in Pune in 1965, which today stands as one of India’s most respected orthopaedic centres with over 52 specialist surgeons and a 60-year legacy of excellence.
Dr. Sancheti holds an MBBS from B.J. Medical College, Pune (1961), a Diploma in Orthopaedics from G.S. Medical College / KEM Hospital, Bombay (1962), an MS in Orthopedics from G.S. Medical College / KEM Hospital, Bombay (1965), and an FCPS (Orthopedics) from the College of Physicians & Surgeons, Bombay. He was also conferred a PhD in Orthopaedics and a D.Litt (Doctor of Letters) by Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth. For his extraordinary services to medicine, the Government of India honoured him with the Padmashree (1991), the Padmabhushan (2003), and the Padma Vibhushan (2012) — three of the country’s highest civilian awards. He also received the BC Roy Award by the Medical Council of India.
